Hip-hop legend and No Limit Records founder Master P officially retires from music after nearly 40 years, capping his influential rap career with a farewell show at the 2025 ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans. The hometown icon performed his last concert on July 6th at the Superdome, joined by guests like Romeo Miller, Choppa, Keri Hilson, Cymphonique Miller and more celebrating his legacy and impact on Southern hip-hop.

Master P confirmed his retirement in an interview with the media, explaining that stepping away allows him to focus on his new role as head coach and president of basketball operations at the university of New Orleans. He described this transition as a blessing, saying, “Being a servant is my most important job. This is the next phase of my life, and I’m ready to lift my city up through basketball.”

While he calls it a “hard decision,” Master P embraces growth and wants to highlight the positive side of hip-hop and community service. He says his mission now is to rebuild UNO’s basketball program and inspire the next generation. As he closes the chapter on music, Master P proves that his legacy goes far beyond rap, he continues to uplift New Orleans through leadership, sports and service.

Stay tuned.
